What is BugClub?

BugClub is a remarkable South African community project created to help people better understand and appreciate the diverse and often overlooked small creatures that keep our vital ecosystems alive. From the tiniest beetles and vibrant butterflies to curious isopods and various types of spiders, bugs play an essential and multifaceted role in maintaining soil health, ensuring successful pollination, and promoting overall biodiversity in our natural surroundings. These creatures, often dismissed as mere pests, actually contribute significantly to our environment in various ways.

We believe that education about these fascinating beings leads to deeper empathy towards them, and this empathy, in turn, is a crucial driver for their protection.
